CHILI ~ WINE ~ BEER ~ LIVE MUSIC ~ ARTISANS ~ CRAFTERS

Are your taste buds tempted by a sweet chili, or do you prefer a five-alarm job that makes your eyes water, or maybe something in between? Chili aficionados will put their favorite dish on the line at Sinkland Farms 2nd annual “UP IN SMOKE” Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, November 7 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. The contestants are made up of individual teams, caterers, and restaurants, including last year’s second place winner, Ray’s Restaurant of Floyd, VA. The cook-off will include a Wine & Beer Tasting Festival featuring regional wineries and breweries such as Chateau Morrisette, Brooks Mill Winery, and Shooting Creek Brewery.

Between helpings of chili, you can enjoy live music by some of the areas best bluegrass, folk, and traditional musicians including Windfall and Mac & Jenny Traynham. The Boy Scouts will give Punkin Chunkin demonstrations, hurling pumpkins with their handmade, original trebuchet. Of course, the farm’s family friendly activities including hayrides, the corn maze, pony and carriage rides, face painting, farmyard barn animals, ice cream and tasty food concessions will also be available.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the New River Land Trust, a non-profit formed to protect the farmland, forests, open spaces and historic places in Virginia’s New River region, and The Jacksonville Center for the Arts, an art center serving Floyd and the surrounding region with arts & cultural activities for visitors and community members, including contemporary & folk art exhibits, social events, and educational programs for artists of all ages and abilities.

“Susan Sink and Sinkland Farms have been strong supporters of the Center,” says John McEnhill, director of The Jacksonville Center for the Arts. “Given the harsh effect of the economy on non-profits, this is a welcome opportunity for a win-win situation. People can have fun while they support the Jacksonville Center and the New River Land Trust.”
